General William Lyon University Center
After playing five seasons (1996-2000) in the North Gym, the Women of Troy returned to the General William Lyon University Center (Lyon Center) for the 2001 season in order to accommodate more fans in a more comfortable atmosphere. Men’s volleyball has also played many of its seasons at the Lyon Center since its opening. The Women of Troy will play its fourth-straight season in its new home in 2004.
Home to women’s volleyball from 1988 through 1996, in addition to the last three years, the Lyon Center has hosted many of USC’s top volleyball teams, including the 2002 and 2003 women’s national championship team and 1990 men’s national championship team.
The campus recreation center, opened June of 1989, includes a 20,000 square foot playing surface and seats 1,300 fans. With additional seating, it can accommodate up to 3,000. It is located off of McClintock and can be accessed by entering campus through Gates 5 or 8 off of Jefferson Blvd. at Parking Structure B. Visitors will be charged $3 to park on campus.
The greatest benefit for the Women of Troy is the addition of a Sport Court playing surface. First used in 2001 for the NCAA Regionals held at the Los Angeles Sports Arena, the Sport Court is proven to reduce injuries to ankles, knees, lower back and shins for the athletes.
