LOS ANGELES -- Youth instructional camps in nine sports--football, men's and women's basketball, baseball, women's soccer, men's and women's volleyball, track and field and swimming--will be conducted by USC head coaches during the summer of 2000. Signups are being accepted now for the following camps:
FOOTBALL: The USC football camp, with instruction from Trojan head coach Paul Hackett (member of Super Bowl and collegiate national championship coaching staffs) and his assistants, will be held in three different sessions on Howard Jones Field on the USC campus. There will be two one-day camps: the first on June 10 (offensive and defensive line, grades 9-12) and the second on June 17 (all positions, grades 9-12). The fee for both one-day camps is $30. There will also be a four-day, non-contact camp on June 25-28 (ages 8-18). Overnight ($350 tuition) or day ($250) camper options are available. Participants in the four-day camp will receive on-field instruction from the USC coaching staff, a camp t-shirt, access to the Trojan weight room, film room chalk talks and daily competition. MEN'S BASKETBALL: Trojan basketball will host two camps over the summer. The first is the Inside/Outside Basketball Camp for grades 9-12 held from June 25-30 ($495 tuition). It includes five nights lodging, three meals per day and a camp t-shirt. Campers will receive hands-on instruction from USC head coach Henry Bibby and USC assistant coach Paul Mokeski (both are former collegiate and NBA stars). The second camp is Henry Bibby's Summer Camp (day camp) held from July 30 - August 4 for ages 5-17 ($225 per camper). The camp's hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m each day. Every camper will be issued a camp t-shirt and a water bottle, with lunch provided as well. Five full-size basketball courts will be the site for thorough instruction, fundamental drills and team competitions (there will be one coach for every 10 campers). WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The 2000 Chris Gobrecht Hoop Camp will be held June 26-30 at Pasadena City College for ages 8-18. Camp hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. ($90 tuition). The Women of Troy coaching staff will provide hands-on instruction in basic basketball fundamentals. Campers will be placed on teams accoring to their ability level and daily competition will allow each camper to test her newly learned ball-handling, shooting, passing and rebounding skills. BASEBALL: The Trojan Baseball Camp, hosted by head coach Mike Gillespie (coach of the 1998 College World Series Champs), will be held in three sessions--June 28-30 (ages 15-18), July 2-4 (ages 6-10) and July 10-12 (ages 11-14)--from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at USC's Dedeaux Field. TRACK AND FIELD: The USC Track and Field Camp will be held from July 24-27 at Veteran's Stadium on the campus of Long Beach City College. Overnight ($395) and day ($295) options are available. Overnight campers will be housed at nearby Brooks College. Campers will receive a Nike t-shirt and running log. The camp will be directed by Trojan head coach Ron Allice and is part of the Nike Youth Camp series. Campers will receive education in the latest training techniques from Allice, whose Trojans were the top combined men's and women's program in the country in 1999. MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The 2000 Pat Powers Clinic hosted by USC head coach Pat Powers (former All-American, Olympic gold medalist and pro beach star) will be held on June 13-15 at Pleasant Valley High in Chino, Calif. Clinic hours are from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Cost is $100. Campers will learn the secrets of better volleyball from one of the best teachers in the game. WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: The USC Women's Volleyball Camp will be held on July 13-17 on USC's campus. The $425 cost of tuition includes four nights housing in campus dormitories and three meals per day. Campers will receive instruction from 1999 Pac-10 Coach of the Year Jerritt Elliot and his staff. The low coach-to-player ration (8-1) will allow for individual coaching attention and will help enhance a camper's fundamental skills and on-court performance. WOMEN'S SOCCER: The USC Girls Soccer Camp, hosted by Trojan head coach Jim Millinder (the 1996 and 1998 Pac-10 Coach of the Year) will be held in two sessions--July 10-13 and July 23-27--on the USC campus. The first session ($175 tuition) is a day camp held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will feature extensive instruction by the USC coaching staff. Campers will also receive a camp ball and t-shirt. The second session has both overnight ($450) and day ($350) camp options and is open to ages 12-18. Participants will receive a camp ball, t-shirt and hands-on training from top coaches. SWIMMING: The USC Swimming Camps under the direction of Trojan head coach Mark Schubert (who is also the 2000 U.S. Olympic team coach), will be held in four sessions this summer--June 11-16, June 18-23, June 25-30 and July 2-7--on the USC campus for qualified swimmers ages 8-18. All camps have overnight ($520) or day ($410) options and feature long course training, technique drills and conditioning and dryland training from the USC coaching staff. Training camp will be available for swimmers who have junior/senior national qualifying times.
