Sarah Cocco of the women's cross country team and Chauncey Washington of football were selected as USC's Wells Fargo Student-Athletes of the Week today (Nov. 12) for the week of Nov. 5-11.
The freshman Cocco placed 18th at the NCAA West Regional and earned at at-large berth at the NCAA Championships to be hosted by Indiana State in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 19. She is one of four freshmen out of the 38 individual runners earning an at-large berth for the NCAA Championships. Cocco is the sixth Trojan (and first freshman) to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships and first since Iryna Vashchuk in 2004 (2-time qualifier).
The senior running back Washington had the best day of his career, gaining 220 yards on 29 carries, including a 36-yard touchdown run, in USC's 24-17 win at California. His rushing total bettered his previous career best by 101 yards. Washington was also named Pac-10 Offensive Player of the Week for his efforts.
