THIS YEAR: Junior Shalina Clarke is coming off a strong sophomore campaign and is looked upon as a leader on the team and a scorer at the NCAA Championships.
2008: Clarke posted the top USC women's 110m HH and 400m IH times and ran a leg on the Trojans' best 400m and 1,600m relays. She won the 400m IH at the Pac-10 Championships with a season-best time of 58.05 and placed third in the 100m HH with a time of 13.47. She also ran the leadoff leg for USC's winning 4x100m relay team and the first leg of the 4x400m relay team with placed fourth. In all, she helped generate 31 of USC's 91 points at the Pac-10 Championships. At the NCAA West Regional, Clarke won the 110m HH with a time of 13.46, but did not reach the finals of the 400m IH as she had a time of 1:00.93 in the prelims. She ran a leg on both USC's 4x100m and 4x400m relays which placed second and third respectively. She took 8th place at the NCAA Championships in the 100m HH with a time of 13.58 and ran a leg on USC's relay teams that did not reach the finals. Posted a career-best time of 13.13 in the 100m HH at the Trojan Invitational on March 22. Ran a 13.30 at the Olympic Trials to advance out of the first round, but her time of 13.18 in the quarterfinal round was .009 out of the last advancing spot.
2007: Outstanding freshman season saw her post the 8th-fastest 100m HH time (13.48) in school history and 6th-best 400m IH (57.78) by a Trojan female. Following the season was named the Pac-10 Women's Co-Newcomer of the Year along with teammate Shana Woods. Ran a leg in the 9th-fastest 4x100m relay (43.69) and 4x400m relay (3:34.80). Scored in the Dual Meet vs. UCLA on April 28 in the 100m HH (3rd) and the 400m IH (2nd)...her time of 57.78 was the 6th-fastest every by a Trojan. Accounted for 12 points at the Pac-10 Championships on May 13 at Stanford, finishing 8th in the 100m (11.66w), 4th in the 100m HH (13.70) and 3rd in the 400m IH (59.05). Placed 6th in the 100m HH (13.54w) at the NCAA West Regional in Eugene, Ore. on May 26 to earn USC six points. Was part of USC's 4x100m relay team which placed 3rd at the NCAA Championships in Sacramento on June 8 with the 9th-fastest time in school history (43.89).
HIGH SCHOOL: Had a standout prep career at Evanston Township High in Evanston, Ill, earning High School All-America honors...Won the state 300m IH title all four years...Led her school to the 2006 state title...Ran the second best high school 300m IH (40.68) and 100m HH (13.59)...Placed second at the USTF Junior Championships in the 100m HH with a 13.38 time to make the U.S. Junior team.
PERSONAL: Shalina was born on Aug. 8, 1988 in Evanston, Ill.....She is a Business major at USC.
