THIS YEAR: Redshirt junior Brian Wilhelm made great strides last season and will be looked upon along with others to fill the voids left by the graduation of Noah Bryant, Will Denbo and Adam Midles.
2007: Had a solid first season of competition for USC. Had a career-best hammer throw of 189-4 (57.72m) at the Trojan Invitational on March 24 to finish fourth in the event. Also posted his career best in the shot at the Trojan Invitational with a put of 56-0 1/2 (17.08m). Finished fourth in the hammer throw at the USC-UCLA Dual Meet with a distance of 184-3 (56.17m). Placed 14th at the Pac-10 Championships in the hammer throw. Was a 2007 NCAA West Regional qualifier in the hammer.
2006: Redshirted in his first season at USC.
JUNIOR COLLEGE: Attended the College of San Mateo from 2004-05...Threw the shot and discus, placing second in NorCal in the discus and third in NorCal in the Shot..Won the conference championship in the discus...Had personal bests of 160-0 in the discus and 51-1 1/2 in the shot.
HIGH SCHOOL: Attended St. Ignatius College Preparatory where he participated in track and basketball...Was the league and section champion in the shotput...Had bests of 56-10 1/2 in the shot and 155-0 in the discus.
PERSONAL: Brian was born on Aug. 19, 1986 in Nagoya, Japan... He is a Social Sciences major at USC with an emphasis in Economics...Also minoring in Business...Hobbies include lifting, playing video games and "chilling with friends"...Lists his favorite movie as Braveheart...His father Bruce was a member of the 1972 (alternate) and 1976 U.S. Olympic Weightlifting Teams...He won a Silver Medal in the 1976 games and set a U.S. record in the snatch.
