FULLERTON, CALIF. - Junior Eva Orban came within inches of beating her own school record to win the hammer throw competition and lead the Trojans at the Ben Brown Invitational held March 7-8 in Fullerton, Calif.

Orban's throw of 226-6 (69.04m) in her first competition of the season was just two inches off her school record of 226-8 set during the 2006 season. It also met the NCAA Regional qualifying standard.

Also posting NCAA Regional marks in the men's hammer were redshirt junior Brian Wilhelm with a PR of 196-1 (59.76m) and freshman Trey Henderson with a season best of 195-2 (59.50m). Redshirt junior Mike Curiel just missed achieving the qualifying standard (56.80m) with a personal-best throw of 185-11 (56.66m). The Trojan trio finished third-fifth respectively.

Freshman Oscar Spurlock placed second in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.30 which is the NCAA Regional qualifying time.

Other Trojans with impressive early season marks include sophomore Jason Price with a PR of 47.75 in the men's 400m race, sophomore Nate Anderson with a new PR of 1:51.06 in the men's 800m, senior Daniel Corrigan winning the men's pole vault with a season-best clearance of 16-0 3/4, sophomore Shalina Clarke winning the women's 100m HH with a season-best 13.56 (already had a regional qualifying time), senior Lindsey Oman and sophomore Ekene Anene tying for first in the women's high jump at 5-5 (1.65m) and freshman Lauren Guerrieri placing second in the women's discus with a throw of 152-3 (46.42).
