LOS ANGELES - Former USC sprinter Angela Williams ran a world-leading time of 7.06 in the 60m dash today (March 7) to win the gold medal at the World Indoor Championships held in Valencia, Spain.

Williams, who has battled injuries over the last few seasons, sprinted by Taheisa Harrigan of the Virgin Islands (7.09) and Jeanette Kwakye of Great Britain (7.08) at the tape to secure the world title.

The former Trojan star has returned to health and has sprinted to the head of the pack this season, also winning the 60m dash at the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships held in Boston, Mass. on Feb. 24 with a time of 7.11. Williams is the USC 100m record-holder with a time of 11.04 and a four-time NCAA outdoor champion in the 100m dash. She also won the NCAA indoor 60m dash title in 2002 with a time of 7.09 and was part of USC's winning 4x100 relay team at the 2000 NCAA Championships.
