2004: Cassel will look for playing time as a reliever for the Trojans in his 2004 junior season, his first year with the baseball program.

USC FOOTBALL: Cassel was a member of the 2003 national championship football squad as a tight end, playing in eight games...he started the season as the team's No. 2 quarterback with appearances against Hawaii and Arizona State before being moved to tight end...saw action in 10 games during the 2002 season as a backup quarterback to Heisman Trophy winner Carson Palmer.

HIGH SCHOOL: He helped Chatsworth (Calif.) High to the Los Angeles city title in his 1999 senior season while hitting .390 with three home runs and 29 RBI as a first baseman.

LITTLE LEAGUE: Cassel played with the 1994 Northridge team in the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

PERSONAL: Majoring in communications...his older brother, Jack, plays in the San Diego Padres organization while his younger brother, Justin, is a pitcher at UC Irvine...likes to jet ski and play ping pong in his spare time...lists Joe Montana as his biggest sports hero...favorite movie is Freddy Vs.
