LOS ANGELES - Andy Beal allowed two runs in 6 1/3 innings as the Loyola Marymount Lions won their second straight game over the USC Trojans with the 8-2 victory on Tuesday at Dedeaux Field. The Lions scored two runs in the second and fifth innings and three in the fourth to hold a 7-0 lead in the game.
Beal (2-2) scattered eight hits while striking out three and not allowing a walk for LMU (13-11). Ryan Wheeler went 3-for-5 with an RBI for the Lions while T.J. Bernardy went 2-for-3 with a double and one RBI.
Brett Mendoza reached first in the second after USC starter Jeff Grijalva hit him with a pitch. A wild pitch moved Mendoza to second and a Ryan Wheeler ground out moved him to third. Michael Glomb then plated Mendoza with an RBI single up the middle, followed by Bernardy's double to left for a 2-0 LMU lead.
The Lions salted the game away in the fourth on Will Dugoni's two-run single and A.J. LaMonda's RBI single for the 5-0 advantage.
USC sophomore catcher Robert Stock (Westlake Village/Agoura HS) went 3-for-4 while freshman pitcher Danny Beck (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista HS) threw three no-hit innings in relief for the Trojans (11-11).
