LOS ANGELES - Gavin Brooks gave up just two runs on four hits in 8 1/3 innings Sunday as the No. 23 UCLA Bruins beat the USC Trojans, 4-2, for their first win of the Pac-10 Conference series. Brooks walked five and struck out four as Jason Novak picked up his first save by getting USC's Roberto Lopez to ground into a double play with the bases loaded in the ninth.

Alden Carrithers had two RBI for the Bruins (14-12, 3-3) while Brandon Crawford with 2-for-4 with one RBI.

Brad Boxberger threw six innings for the Trojans (15-15, 4-5), allowing three runs on six hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Shortstop Grant Green finished the series with eight hits after going 3-for-5 with a double and one RBI.

Taylor Grigsby led off the game with a single up the middle for the Trojans and scored on Green's RBI double off the fence in center. Green later scored on a Brooks wild pitch for a 2-0 lead. The Bruins responded with a run in the bottom of the first on Crawford's RBI single and Carrithers tied the game in the third with a solo shot to right, his second home run in as many games.

The Bruins scored the go-ahead run in the fifth. Brent Dean led off with a double to left, moved to third on Niko Gallego's bunt single and scored on Carrithers' RBI sacrifice fly to center. UCLA added the insurance run in the eighth on pinch hitter Mickey Weisser's RBI single to right.
