THE BREAKDOWN:
Dwight Lewis, a 6-foot-5, 215-pound sophomore guard, is an explosive scorer with a good mid-range game and the ability to defend on the perimeter.
2006-07:
Lewis was one of the more pleasant surprises for USC in his first season. Came off the bench and scored 12 points on 6-for-9 shooting and had four rebounds in the win vs. St. Mary's on Nov. 18. Made his first start on Nov. 24 vs. Long Beach State and had seven points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Matched his career highs in rebounds (5) and assists (3) while scoring 11 points in the win vs. Bethune-Cookman on Dec. 14. Scored 11 points in 21 minutes vs. Washington State on Dec. 30. Started again on Jan. 4 at Oregon and had 10 points and five rebounds to help the Trojans snap the Ducks' 13-game winning streak. Scored 11 points and was a season-best 3-for-3 from three-point range on Feb. 1 vs. Oregon State. Scored a season-high 14 points on 5-for-7 shooting on Feb. 24 vs. California. Started twice in USC's first 15 games and nine times in the last 22 games. Played in all 37 games and reached double figures in scoring eight times.
HIGH SCHOOL:
Lewis played his senior season at James Taylor High in Katy, Tex., after being uprooted by hurricane Katrina. Lewis helped lead James Taylor High to a 17-10 record by scoring 21 points per game and was named first-team all-region. He was ranked by Rivals.com as the No. 44 shooting guard in the Class of 2006. As a junior at Archbishop Rummel High in Tetairie, La., he averaged 27.5 points, 9.7 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. He was named first-team all-state by the New Orleans Times-Pacayune.
PERSONAL:
Lewis was born on Oct. 7, 1987. He is an undeclared major at USC. Lists his favorite movie as "How High." Says his favorite current basketball player is Ryan Wetherell and his favorite all-time as Michael Jordan. Likes to play video games in his spare time.
