THIS SEASON: Tyler Murphy, a 6-foot-5, 190-pound shooting guard, is a 2001 senior who transferred to USC from Vermont last season as a walk-on. He earned a scholarship both last year and this year and gives the Trojans another quality shooter off the bench. BIBBY ON MURPHY: "Tyler Murphy is a solid player who gives us good depth on the wing. He made 34-of-97 three-point attempts (35.1%) and made 32-of-43 free throw attempts (74.4%) ... He scored a career-high 17 points against Yale and had 15 points against Towson. VERMONT 1997-1998: Murphy started five times in 26 games as a sophomore, averaging 4.3 points and 1.7 rebounds in 14.0 minutes per game ... He had a season-high 15 points against Towson. VERMONT 1996-1997: As a freshman in 1996-97, Murphy played in all 27 of Vermont’s games off the bench ... He averaged 2.9 points and 1.3 rebounds in 11.1 minutes per game ... NEW HAMPTON 1995-1996: Murphy played at the prep school New Hampton in 1995-96, where he averaged 12.0 points, 7.5 assists and 3.0 rebounds, earning New England Prep All-Star honors. HIGH SCHOOL: Murphy played his high school ball at Notre Dame in Sherman Oaks, Calif. ... There, he averaged 17.5 points, eight assists and five rebounds as a senior. SIDELIGHTS: Murphy was born on July 17, 1976, and at 24, is the oldest player on the team ... He is majoring in communications ...
