2006: Ashley, who enrolled at USC in the spring of 2006, will compete for playing time at defensive tackle as a first-year freshman in 2006.

2005: He originally signed with USC in 2005, but did not qualify for admission.

HIGH SCHOOL: He earned 2004 Super Prep All-American, Prep Star All-American, Tom Lemming All-American, Super Prep All-Midwest, Prep Star All-Midwest and All-State honors as a senior defensive lineman at Eden Prairie (Minn.) High. He had 89 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 14 sacks and 6 forced fumbles in 2004. As a junior in 2003, he made All-State and Minneapolis Star-Tribune All-Metro while posting 74 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 10 sacks. A 3-year starter, he had 8 sacks as a 2002 sophomore as Eden Prairie won the state championship. His high school coach was Mike Grant, son of legendary ex-Minnesota Vikings head coach Bud Grant.

PERSONAL: His father, Walker Lee Ashley, was an All-American defensive end on Penn State's 1982 national championship team who then played in the NFL as a linebacker with the Vikings (1983-88, 1990)--current USC head coach Pete Carroll was an assistant with the Vikings during some of Ashley's stint there--and Kansas City Chiefs (1988-89).
