LOS ANGELES (AP) - Willard "Bubba" Scott, a key defensive player at the Southern California in the late 1960s, has died after a long bout with cancer. He was 53.

Scott, who died Friday at his home, was one of the "Wild Bunch," the nickname given to the 1969 Trojans' defensive line, which included Al Cowlings, Jimmy Gunn, Charlie Weaver and Tody Smith. That team had a 10-0-1 record and beat Michigan in the 1970 Rose Bowl game.

As a sophomore, Scott was on the national championship team that went 10-1 and defeated Indiana in the 1968 Rose Bowl. In Scott's three years at Southern California, the Trojans had a 29-2-2 record.

Scott later worked for Southern Pacific Railroad and most recently was a probation officer.

Funeral services will be held Saturday at Holman Methodist Church in Los Angeles.

Scott is survived by his wife, Terrie, and daughters Nikki and Rena.
