Sophomore Rory Hie won a three-way playoff on the first hole and took the individual title on the final day of the UNLV Southern Highland Collegiate at Southern Highlands G.C. in Las Vegas on Sunday (March 9).

USC finished fourth overall at 14-over 878 (285-295-298). UNLV won at 869 and was followed by Charlotte (871), Georgia (872) and USC.

Hie's final round gave him a 54-hole 3-under 213 (71-69-73) and his team-best fifth top 10 finish. The sophomore was 2-under for much of the round after three birdies on the front 9, but he gave some ground back on the back 9.

Hie finished the final round tied with Georgia's Hudson Swafford and Charlotte's Jonas Enander Hedin. Hie and Hedin entered the final round four strokes back of Swafford. Hie made up two strokes on the front 9. Both Hie and Swafford struggled some on the back 9 though Hie actually had the lead before his double bogey on 17 dropped him back into a tie at 3-under overall. Hedin was a shot back of the lead heading into the 18th hole, but birdied the final hole for the three-way tie and to force the three-way playoff.

Hie's win is his first since winning the 2007 USC Collegiate.

Sophomore Jamie Lovemark tied for seventh at even 216 (69-75-72). His final round included four birdies and helped secure his fifth top 11 finish this year.

Freshman Matthew Giles tied for 27th at 8-over 224 (69-77-78), junior Tom Glissmeyer tied for 36th at 10-over 226 (76-74-74) while freshman Tim Sluiter tied for 56th at 14-over 230 (76-74-76).b
