Junior Jamie Lovemark scorched 18 holes with a 5-under effort to lead the No. 2 USC men's golf team into third place after the first day of the highly competitive 2008 Ping/Golfweek Preview at the Inverness C.C. in Toledo, Ohio, on Sunday (Sept. 28).

USC, playing in its first event of the 2008-2009 season, finished a combined 2-over 286, four strokes back of leader Oklahoma State (282) and two behind Tennessee (284). Georgia is in fourth (290) while Florida is fifth (291).

Lovemark leads the field at 5-under while Tom Glissmeyer opened his senior campaign with a 1-under 70 to tie for eighth. Senior Ryan Linton is tied for 30th at 3-over 74 while sophomores Tim Sluiter and Bo DeHuff are tied for 44th at 5-over 76.

Lovemark, a two-time All-American first teamer, had an amazing nine birdies on the day, offset by four bogeys. He was 2-under going out and 3-under coming in. Eight of his birdies came on par 4 holes.

Glissmeyer posted a five-birdie round to make up for four bogeys. The senior finished his junior season strong and looks to keep the momentum going.

Linton had four birdies in his first action as a member of USC's scoring unit since the 2008 USC Collegiate Invitational.

Sluiter and DeHuff both birdied twice in their first rounds. DeHuff played as a scoring member of USC's squad for only his third time.
