Senior Tom Glissmeyer fired a 1-under 71 to lead the No. 2 USC men's golf team into third place, not far off the lead after the first day of the 2008 Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational on Sunday (Oct. 26) at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla.

USC finished the first round with a combined 2-over 290, three strokes back of leader Alabama (287) and one behind Indiana (289). Georgia and Texas Tech are tied for fourth, four back of Troy.

Glissmeyer carded five birdies on the day, including three on a 2-under back 9 that helped him to a tie for fourth overall, three strokes out of the individual lead.

Senior Ryan Linton and sophomore Matt Giles are tied for seventh at par. Linton posted a steady round with three birdies against three bogeys. Giles was also consistent, offsetting bogeys on 3 and 4 with birdies on 12 and 13.

Junior Jamie Lovemark is tied for 35th at 3-over 75 while sophomore Tim Sluiter is tied for 47th at 4-over 76. Neither was able to generate much momentum, though Lovemark did finish his back at 1-under.

USC is trying to extend a streak of finishing in the top four of 12 consecutive tournaments.

Play continues Monday at 8 a.m EST.
