Second Round Results in PDF Format

Junior Jamie Lovemark and sophomore Matt Giles both broke par to help keep the No. 2 USC men's golf team in striking distance of first place after the second day of the 2008 Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational on Monday (Oct. 27) at the Isleworth Golf and Country Club in Windermere, Fla.

USC is in fourth at 3-over 579 (290-289), eight strokes behind first-place Georgia (571), which recorded an 11-under second round. Indiana is in second (574) with Alabama (578), USC and Texas Tech (586) rounding out the top 5.

Giles, in his first event of the season, moved into a tie for fifth at 3-under 141 (72-69) after a 3-under second round. Even on the front 9, Giles went 3-under on the back 9 as the only Trojan to play in the red coming home.

Lovemark rebounded from an opening round 75 with a 4-under 68 and is tied for eighth at 3-under 143. He couldn't have started the round much hotter, sinking four birdies and an eagle on the par 5 7th hole to finish 6-under on the first nine holes. A double bogey on 10 and a bogey on 11 slowed his momentum, but he gathered himself with birdies on 16 and 18 to maintain a strong round.

Junior Tom Glissmeyer is tied for 30 at 5-over 149 (71-78) while sophomore Tim Sluiter is tied for 42nd at 6-over 160 (76-74). Senior Ryan Linton, who was even in the first round, appeared on his way to another solid day, going 1-under on the front 9. But his round got derailed at the start of the back 9 and he finished the day tied for 59th at 8-over 152 (72-80).

USC is trying to extend a streak of finishing in the top four of 12 consecutive tournaments.
