USC Wins CordeValle Collegiate By 26 Strokes

The No. 2 USC men's golf team completed a wire-to-wire victory in dominating fashion, placing four players in the top seven spots and winning the UCLA-hosted 2008 CordeValle Collegiate by a whopping 26 strokes on Wednesday (Nov. 5) at the CordeValle C.C. in San Martin, Calif. In a tournament in which six players play and five are counted, the Trojans finished at even 1080 (357-362-361), 26 strokes ahead of second-place Stanford (1106). UCLA was third (1107) and Washington was fourth (1110). Sophomore Tim Sluiter won his second tournament as a Trojan, tying for first at 4-under 212 (70-70-72). He tied with Washington's Nick Taylor. Senior Tom Glissmeyer took third at 3-under 213 (74-71-68), sophomore Matt Giles tied for fourth at 2-under 214 (69-72-73) and junior Jamie Lovemark tied for seventh at 1-over 217 (70-72-75). Senior Ryan Linton tied for 33rd at 11-over 227 (74-80-73), freshman Steve Lim tied for 45th at 13-over 229 (74-77-78) and redshirt freshman Bo DeHuff, playing as an individual, tied for 64th at 19-over 235 (76-80-79). For Sluiter, his first-place mark was his first since winning the 2008 USC Collegiate Invitational. He used a pair of birdies to offset some rocky holes on the front 9 before settling down to a 2-under back 9. Glissmeyer's finish is his best since tying for second at the U.S. Intercollegiate last season. His season-low round of 68 on Wednesday came thanks to four birdies without another blemish on the scorecard. Giles posted his second top four finish of the season, doing so with a 1-over front 9 and an even back 9. Lovemark has now finished in the top 10 in all three of his events this year.
