Sophomore Rory Hie and freshman Tim Sluiter tied for ninth and helped lead the No. 7 USC men's golf team to a third-place finish on the final day of the 2007 CordeValle Collegiate on Wednesday (Nov. 7) at the CordeValle C.C. in San Martin, Calif.

In an event which counts a school's five best players out of six playing, USC combined on Wednesday for its second straight 2-over 362, finishing with a 7-over 1087 (363-362-362). Host UCLA won with a 1068 while Stanford was second (1079). Troy finished third for the third straight event.

Sluiter led USC on Wednesday with a 3-under 69, his first sub-70 round as a Trojan. He was 2-over after 10 holes, but caught fire on the back 9, birdying five of the final eight holes to score a top 10 finish at 1-under 215 (72-74-69).

Hie's 215 (68-75-72) included a par performance on Wednesday. He birdied the 2nd and 3rd holes for a fast start, but evened out over the course of the round. Only a bogey on 18 stood in the way of a round in the red.

Sophomore Jamie Lovemark, battling strep throat through the three-day event, finished tied for 16th at 1-over 217 (75-70-72). His final round of par included three birdies, including one on the 18th hole.

Freshman Gavin Reid finished at 4-over 220 (77-70-73), in 30th. Reid was actually eyeing his second sub-par round in a row thanks to four birdies and three bogeys through 17 holes, but a double bogey on 18 sent him over par for the day.

Junior Tom Glissmeyer tied for 31st at 5-over 221 (71-74-76). He was even through 12 holes, but a triple bogey on the 16th hole leveled the round.

Redshirt freshman Bo DeHuff tied for 50th at 12-over 228 (78-74-76). His final round included an eagle on the 390-yard par-4 11th hole as well as a pair of birdies.

Junior Ryan Linton made his 2007-08 debut playing as an individual. He tied for 58th at 15-over 231 (79-74-78).

USC is off until the UH-Hilo Intercollegiate, Feb. 6-8, at the Waikoloa (Hawaii) C.C.
