Nov. 6, 2008

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - USC junior Robert Farah had a successful first day at the National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships hosted by the University of Virginia at the Boar's Head Sports Club. Fifth-seeded Farah pulled out a three-setter in singles play and also notched a doubles win alongside teammate Steven Johnson to push into tomorrow's play in Charlottesville, Va.

In the singles Round of 32, Farah outlasted opponent Bruno Agostinelli of Kentucky to tally a 7-5, 3-6, 6-4 win. He moves into tomorrow's Round of 16 against Guillermo Gomez of Georgia Tech. Farah had secured a place in the indoor championships as a semifinalist at the 2008 D'Novo/ITA Mens All-American Championships.

During the doubles action, Farah and Johnson -- champions at the ITA Regionals on October 21 -- went up against Johnson/Tucker of Auburn-Montgomery and came away with an 8-5 decision to take a place in tomorrow's quarterfinals. The Trojans will take on Barrick/Singh of host Virginia.
