Playing inspired volleyball on Senior Night, the No. 12-ranked USC men's volleyball team upset No. 6 Stanford in dominating fashion, 30-26, 30-21, 30-19, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (March 29) at USC's Galen Center.

USC improved to 12-13 overall and 9-10 in the MPSF, while Stanford fell to 14-9 and 9-9.

Trojan senior Juan Figueroa had a match-high 18 kills while hitting .516 and he added 9 digs and 3 blocks. Teammate Murphy Troy had 12 kills, senior Andrew Vernon had 9 kills (hitting .467) and 7 blocks, senior Jimmy Killian had 41 assists and 5 digs and Hunter Current hit .727 with 8 kills. For Stanford, Evan Romero and Spencer McLachlin each had 9 kills, with McLachlin adding 11 digs and 2 aces.

USC hit .362 overall to Stanford's .133 and posted 11.0 blocks to the Cardinal's 5.0.

In the first game, USC used a 4-0 run to turn a 17-17 tie into a lead it never relinquished. The Trojans jumped out to a 6-1 edge in the second game and were never threatened while getting 5 blocks and hitting .345 to Stanford's .029. It was more of the same in the third game, as USC started off with a 3-1 lead and steadily extended it while getting 15 digs and hitting .361 (the Cardinal hit .000).

Besides Figueroa, Vernon and Killian, USC's other seniors making their final home appearances are Matt Anderson, Chris Jones and Sean O'Connor.

USC, in eighth place in the MPSF and angling to get into the 8-team MPSF tourney, has 3 MPSF regular-season matches remaining and all are on the road, beginning with a match at No. 5 Pepperdine next Saturday (April 5).
