Box Score

Shaun Nichols had 13 kills and 6 blocks and Steve Klosterman added 12 kills to help the No. 4-ranked UCLA men's volleyball team to a 30-27, 30-20, 30-26 sweep over No. 12 USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (March 31) in USC's Galen Center.

The Bruins improved to 15-10 overall and 10-9 in the MPSF while avenging a 3-0 loss to the Trojans earlier this season at Pauley Pavilion. USC fell to 10-13 overall and 7-11 in the MPSF

Nichols hit .579 overall, while teammate Brett Perrine had 9 kills while hitting .533 and Paul George served 4 aces.

For USC, Juan Figueroa had 19 kills and 7 digs, C.J. Schellenberg added 9 kills and Andrew Vernon had 7 kills while hitting .545.

UCLA outhit (.394 to .210) and outblocked (8.5 to 4.0) the Trojans and served more aces (6 to 2).

In the first game, UCLA broke a 17-17 tie by scoring consecutive points and then steadily pulled away, aided by George's 4 aces. The Bruins jumped out to a 5-2 lead in the second game and were never threatened while hitting .536 to USC's .028. It was more of the same in the final game as UCLA went up 7-2 and kept an edge throughout.

With the win, UCLA got 2.5 points in the Lexus Gauntlet standings, the all-sport competition between the two crosstown rivals.

USC next travels to Northern California for a pair of MPSF matches at Pacific on Friday (April 6) and Stanford on Saturday (April 7).
