Nov. 10, 2008

The USC men's volleyball team won its second tournament of the 2008 fall pre-season, as the Trojan I team defeated host Hawaii I, 30-24, 25-30, 30-26, 30-23, in the final of the Hawaii Fall Tournament in Honolulu on Saturday (Nov. 8).

Last month, the Trojans captured the Can-Am Challenge in Alberta, Canada.

USC I got to the Hawaii Fall Tournament final by beating BYU I, 30-26, 28-30, 32-30, 30-24, in a semifinal match. In pool play the previous day (Nov. 7), the Trojan I squad beat BYU I, 30-26, 26-30, 30-27, 24-30, 15-10, but then was swept by Hawaii I, 30-24, 30-19, 30-27.

To maximize playing time for all of their players, each team fielded "I" and "II" squads.

The USC II team lost to BYU II, 26-30, 30-27, 25-30, 30-28, 16-14, then defeated Hawaii II, 30-28, 30-27, 27-30, 30-24, on the first day of pool play. Then on Saturday in the fifth place match, USC II topped Hawaii II 30-20, 27-30, 30-17, 30-27.
