Aarika Hughes has a strong sophomore season ahead of her as a now-proven 3-point threat with versatility to her game as a tall guard.
2006-07 FRESHMAN SEASON
Hughes started once and played in 18 games as a true freshman... Sidelined for 12 games with a stress fracture in her foot, returning on Jan. 18... Scored five points three times this year and has hit seven 3-pointers total... Had a career-high three steals against Nebraska and three assists at South Dakota State... Averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 rebounds per game, playing 13.2 minutes per game.
HIGH SCHOOL
Hughes started all 29 games as a senior at Southridge High in Beaverton, Ore.... Lost only five games in three years at Southridge... Averaged 10 ppg, 6.4 rpg and 2.9 spg as a senior to help Southridge win the 4A state title and finish the season ranked No. 6 in the nation by USA Today... As a junior, averaged 12.9 ppg, 6.1 rpg, 2.9 spg and 2.4 apg, when Southridge went 29-0, won state and finished ranked No. 22 in the nation... Named to 2006 All-Oregon 4A first team by the Portland Oregonian... Earned All-Oregon 4A State Tournament first team honors in 2006... Received All-State first team honors in 2005 and 2006 and second team honors in 2004... Named Metro League Player of the Year in 2005 and All-Metro League in 2005 and 2006... Invited to the U.S. Under-20 National Team Trials... Participated in the USA Basketball Youth Development Festival along with Trojan teammates Jacki Gemelos and Morghan Medlock.

Aarika Hughes was born on Sept. 5, 1987, in Milwaukee, Wisc.... The daughter of Alfred and Sandi, she has one brother, Aaron... Names Mia Hamm as her biggest sports hero... Favorite TV show is `Grey's Anatomy'... Has always wanted to take a road trip around the USA... Would like to either keep playing basketball or work with children in the future... Has not decided on a major.
