Former Trojans Lisa Leslie and Tina Thompson helped the U.S. women's basketball team capture the gold medal with a 74-63 victory over Australia on Saturday (Aug. 28) at the 2004 Athens Olympics. Thompson scored a game-high 18 points, while Leslie added 13 points and a team-best 8 rebounds. This is Leslie's third Olympic gold medal, as she also was a member of victorious U.S. teams in the 1996 Atlanta and 2000 Sydney Games. Thompson was making her first Olmypic appearance in Athens. With these golds, a total of 17 medals (8 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze) have been won by current, former or future Trojans in the 2004 Games. Athletes who attended USC before, during or after their Olympic appearance now have collected 112 golds, 64 silvers and 58 bronzes since USC's first recipient in 1912.
