THIS SEASON: Sophomore Belén Mozo is a returning All-American honorable mention pick who has blossomed into one of the nation's top collegiate players. The Spanish native figures to again challenge for All-American honors and finished a strong fall in which she won her first career collegiate event and finished no lower than 11th in four events.
SUMMER OF 2007: Mozo made the cut at the 2007 British Open, finishing tied for 55th with a 13-over 305 (75-72-82-76). She also played at the European Team Championship and at the Vagliano Trophy.
2006-2007: Mozo earned National Golf Coaches Association All-American honorable mention honors as a 2006-07 freshman after tying for 17th at the 2007 NCAA Championships. She also was named to the 2007 NGCA All-Central Regional team and was a 2007 All-Pac-10 honorable mention pick ... Mozo, who enrolled at USC in the 2007 spring semester, finished second on the team in stroke average (74.82) and posted top 20 finishes in six of seven events ... Ranked among the nation's top 30 players by Golfweek.com, Mozo posted a season-best tie for third at the NCAA Championships Central Regional. Her opening round 68 tied her for 16th on USC's single round list and her 213 tied her for ninth on the 54-hole chart ... Her next highest finish was a tie for eighth in her USC debut at the Northrop Grumman Challenge, where she finished with a 221 (75-72-74).
BEFORE USC: Mozo comes to USC an accomplished junior amateur golfer who has experience competing in both Europe and the United States ... Her 2006 summer was highlighted by a six-round match-play title at the British Ladies Open Amateur Championships at Royal County Down G.C. and a win at the 2006 Girls' British Open Amateur Championship at Portstewart, making her the first woman to win both titles in the same year since 1972. The win at Royal County gave her an exemption into the British Open and into the U.S. Open Amateur Championship ... She also won the International European Ladies Amateur Championships and competed on behalf of her native Spain at the 2006 World Amateur Team Championships ... She has competed for Spain at numerous team events, including winning efforts at the 2005 European Ladies Team Championship hosted in Karlstad, Sweden, the 2005 PING Junior Solheim Cup Team hosted in Carmel, Ind., and the 2003 European Girls Team Championships ... Mozo also finished first at the 2005 Junior International Championship of Spain ... In 2004, Mozo represented Europe in the Junior Ryder Cup, won the AJGA Thunderbird Invitational against some of the world's top juniors, won the Doral-Publix Junior Classic and played at both the European Young Masters and the European Under 16 Team Championships for the second consecutive time.
PERSONAL: Mozo was born Sept. 25, 1988 in Cadiz, Spain ... She is the daughter of Jesus and Isabel.
