Arizona Wildcat Invitational Results

Freshmen Joanne Lee and Lizette Salas and sophomore Belen Mozo are among the top 10 individuals while the No. 4 USC women's golf team is tied for third overall after the second day of the 2008 Wildcat Invitational at the Arizona National G.C. in Tucson on Tuesday (Feb. 26).

USC jumped from eighth to its tie for third with the second-lowest collective round of the day, a 16-over 300 that gave it a 36-hole 28-over 596, fighting off gusty wind conditions that caused the average score to top 80 strokes. USC trails first-place Oklahoma State by 10 strokes (586) while Duke is in second (590) and host Arizona shares third with Troy.

Lee is tied for third at 3-over 145 (75-70) after her 1-under second-round. However, because Lee is entered into the tournament as an individual, she is not eligible to count toward USC's team efforts. The freshman, who birdied three holes Tuesday, is, however, still eligible for the individual crown and is five shots back of leader Amanda Blumenherst of Duke.

Salas is tied for eighth at 5-over 147 (72-75) after a second-round 4-over performance in which she finished with an even back 9.

Mozo, who hasn't finished lower than 18th in any start this season, is tied for 10th at 6-over 148 after her second consecutive 74. She finished her round with a pair of birdies.

Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel (77-75) and sophomore Stefanie Endstrasser (73-79) are tied for 28th at 10-over 152 while senior Paola Moreno is tied for 38th at 12-over 154 (78-76).

Playing individually with Lee was junior Victoria Alimonda, who is 77th at 22-over 164 (78-86).

USC is seeking its fifth consecutive top 3 finish. It has finished no lower than sixth in any event this season.
