Sophomore Belen Mozo continued to battle for the overall lead to pace the No. 3 USC women's golf team on the second day of the 2008 UCF Challenge at RedTail G.C. in Sorrento, Fla., on Monday (March 10).
USC is tied for third overall at 1-under 575 (281-294), 11 shots back of top-ranked Duke (564). Purdue (572) is second while Florida is tied with USC in third. Troy is after its sixth straight top 3 finish, its fifth top 2 finish and its second title of the season.
Mozo, who carded a 3-under 69 on Sunday, shot even on Tuesday as she rattled in a pair of birdies on the back 9 to square up her round. Five shots off the lead, she is seeking her team-best fifth top 10 finish.
Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel climbed the leaderboard and is tied for 16th at even 144 (73-71). Her 1-under second round featured four birdies.
Senior Paola Moreno is tied for 28th at 2-over 146 (70-76), sharing space with sophomore Stefanie Endstrasser (146, 69-77). Freshman Lizette Salas is tied for 42nd at 4-over 148 (73-75).
Final round play begins at 8:30 a.m. EDT on Tuesday. USC's fivesome starts up at 9:24 a.m.
