USC finished 36 holes of stroke play fourth out of 16 teams to advance to the match play winners bracket of the 2008 Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Sunday (Nov. 2) at Ginn Reunion Resort in Orlando, Fla.

The Trojans will play fellow powerhouse Duke (seeded fifth) in the top half of the match play draw. The winner of that matchup will play the winner of UCLA (seeded first) and Michigan State (eighth). Virginia (second) vs. Denver (seventh) and Alabama (third) vs. Auburn (sixth) constitute the other half of the top portion of the field.

Match play competition begins Monday (Nov. 3) with two 18-hole matches followed by the Championship Final on Tuesday (Nov. 4). The event is the only match play championship on the collegiate schedule.

USC finished its two rounds at a combined 6-over 582 (298-284), tied with Duke. UCLA led the field at 567 and was followed by Virginia (576), Alabama (579), USC, Duke, Auburn (585), Denver (588) and Michigan State (590).

Trojan freshman Jennifer Song finished stroke play tied for fourth at 4-under 140 (72-68) while sophomore Lizette Salas tied for 10th at even 144 (73-71). Song had nine birdies on the day, Salas five.

Junior Caroline Kim tied for 24th at 3-over 147 (78-69), her second round her low round as a Trojan. Freshman In-Ah Park tied for 45th at 7-over 151 (75-76) while senior Victoria Alimonda tied for 66th at 157 (80-77).
