USC Wins Pac-10 Tournament

On the heels of winning the 2008 NCAA Women's Golf Championship, USC Head Coach Andrea Gaston was named National Coach of the Year while a school-record five Trojans earned All-Americans honors, the NGCA announced at the Division I Awards Banquet in Albuquerque, N.M.

Gaston, who also earned NGCA West Region Coach of the Year, guided USC to five tournament titles in 2008, including a four-event win streak to close the season that included the 2008 Pac-10, NCAA West Region and NCAA Championship titles. USC either led or shared first after its final nine rounds of the season.

Sophomore Belen Mozo was named an All-American first teamer after finishing fourth at the NCAAs and turning in a season in which she finished no lower than a tie 18th in any event. Mozo is USC's ninth first team selection.

Senior Dewi Claire Schreefel (tied for eighth at NCAAs), sophomore Stefanie Endstrasser (tied 34th) and freshman Lizette Salas (tied 15th) all earned All-American second team honors while senior Paola Moreno (tied 20th) earned All-American honorable mention honors.

Schreefel became USC's third three-time All-American while Moreno and Mozo earned All-American status for the second time. Schreefel was a first teamer in 2006 and a second teamer in 2005. Moreno was first team in 2007 and Mozo was honorable mention. The only other USC golfers to earn three-time All-American status were Irene Cho (2003, 2004, 2006) and Tracy Nakamura (1987, 1988, 1990).

The most All-American selections USC previously had earned in one season was two, something it had done a number of times.

All five Trojans also earned All-NCAA West Region Team honors.
