Nov. 20, 2008

Cyna Marie Rodriguez, a talented international player originally from Manila, The Philippines, has signed a letter of intent with USC, head women's golf coach Andrea Gaston announced on Thursday (Nov. 20).

"We are excited to have Cyna joining our team next season," Gaston said. "She is a great addition to our program bringing experience, enthusiasm, and an eagerness to learn and be a player we can count on."

Rodriguez is the 2008 champion of both the Pacific Northwest Championship in Washington and the Karabrunai Amateur Open in Sabah, Malaysia. She also placed third in the Philippine Women's Amateur Open and competed in both the 2007 and 2008 U.S. Girl's Junior Amateur and the 2008 US Women's Amateur.

Now living in Bradenton, Fla., attending the David Leadbetter Academy, Rodriguez has posted several Top 5 finishes on the FCWT Tour (Future Collegians World Tour), which she competed on since moving to the U.S. in 2007.

Rodriguez is USC's first Philippino player since Jennifer Rosales, who won the 1998 NCAA individual championship as a freshman.
