The Women of Troy look to start off the 2008 spring season with a bang, as they travel to Mission Bay in San Diego to take on UCSD, Univ. of San Diego and SDSU in a scrimmage on Saturday, February 23, 2008. USC will look to improve upon their dominating Fall season appearance at the Head of the American in Sacramento, Calif.
The Women of Troy swept the medal podium and took the next four places in the women's pairs race. The pair of senior Diana Ivanova and junior Robin Hextrum took first with a time of 0:20:00. USC also placed first and second in the collegiate four + coxswain event. The gold metal team was led by junior coxswain Denise Kobashikawa.
USC had an incredibly successful season last year, and the team is looking to exceed expectations this year. The Women of Troy were the Pac-10 Champions in 2007 for the first time in the history of the program and finished fifth overall in the team competition at the NCAA Division I Rowing Championships, which was only their second trip to the event. The Varsity Four won the Division I Fours Petite Final. The No. 1 USC
Varsity Eight competed in the Division I Grand Final and placed third. USC is coming off a season for the record books, arguably the best season that the Women of Troy have had. The team is going to continue to push and looks to improve upon last year.
The Women of Troy are going to launch at 5 a.m. on Saturday, with races beginning at 6 a.m. USC will be racing one varsity eight boat and one novice eight boat against UCSD, Univ. of San Diego and SDSU in multiple heats.
