San Pedro, Calif. - The USC women's rowing team started their spring season off on the right foot, with a dedication of the Trojan's new Varsity Eight boat and a win over Clemson. Since the race with Clemson was arranged on short notice the Tigers only brought their Varsity Eight and JV Eight boats.

USC swept both races over Clemson and went on to scrimmage Loyola Marymount immediately following the race. The Trojan Varsity Eight and JV Eight boat took on LMU's Varsity Eight in two minute pieces. The Woman of Troy were victorious over the Lions on all pieces.

Prior to the start of the race with Clemson the Trojans received a new Varsity Eight boat and named it "Mighty" Joe Young in a dedication ceremony. The boat was named after the late Joe Young, former president of the San Pedro and Peninsula Trojan club, and a long time supporter of the USC rowing programs. The boat was christened by his wife Beverly and daughter Julia.

USC now travels to San Diego to compete in the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1-2 held in the Mission Bay.
