The 2007-2008 USC women's crew team will begin the fall season at the Head of the American Regatta in Sacramento, Calif., on Saturday (Oct. 27).

The annual regatta will take place on the banks of the American River at Lake Natoma. The one-day event is hosted by the Cal State Sacramento Aquatic Center and draws a number of the top rowing programs on the West Coast.

The Women of Troy, who are led by captain Port Nichole Fischbach, have a wealth of experience with 10 returning seniors. The team also boasts three returning All Americans in coxswain Lauren Cowan and port side rowers Ligita Kaviere and Tatiana Boldyreva. USC did lose port Gabriela Varekova, who is taking a year off from the program to train with the Czech Republic national team. The Women of Troy are looking to use Saturday's regatta as preparation for the spring season and Pac-10 competition.

USC will race 10 pairs, one open quad and five boats of four with coxswains this weekend. Two novice eight boats will also be competing on Saturday. The Head of the American course is approximately three miles in length and concludes at the Cal State Sacramento Aquatic Center.
