LOS ANGELES - No. 18 USC and San Diego played to a scoreless tie Friday in non-conference action at McAlister Field. The Women of Troy (3-3-2) outshot the Toreros (6-2-2) by a 17-7 margin as both teams traded good scoring chances in the overtime periods.

USC has allowed only two goals in their last six games as sophomore goalkeeper Julie Peterson made three saves to record her fifth shutout of the season. Peterson needs one more shutout to tie the school season record held by three others.

Libby Bassett made eight saves in goal for the Toreros.

In the first overtime period, Peterson made a point blank shot on Marie Claude-Henry at 91:24. USC's Kelly Blais hit the crossbar with a shot at 98:14. The Trojans would get another chance in front of the goal in the second overtime period, but Bassett made a stop on USC's Amy Mann.

"We did everything but win the game today," said USC head coach Jim Millinder. "We hit the post a couple of times, but I can't fault our kids because it was a great effort. San Diego is a well-coached team. I know we are on the right road. We just need to get a little luck."

USC will travel to UC Irvine on Sunday (Sept. 29) for a non-conference game, beginning at 1 p.m.
