Nov. 15, 2007

Six USC women's soccer players have been awarded All-Pac-10 honors for their efforts with the Women of Troy as they head into NCAA Tournament play as a No. 2 seed this weekend. Junior midfielder Ashley Nick was awarded her first honor on the All-Pac-10 First Team, and Second Team honors went to USC goalkeeper Kristin Olsen and junior midfielder/forward Amy Rodriguez. Two Trojan freshmen - defender Kasey Johnson and midfielder Megan Ohai - earned Pac-10 Honorable Mention in their first year at Troy. Johnson and Ohai were also named to the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team along with midfielder Ashli Sandoval.

The Trojans are coming off a strong regular season in which they finished second in the Pac-10 and are currently setting up for their NCAA First Round match against Creighton in Columbia, Missouri.

Ashley's Nick's first Pac-10 accolades come to the junior team captain in a year in which she has continued to secure the midfield for the Trojans as a full-time starter. The All-Pac-10 first-teamer has upped her goal scoring to three goals so far this season, and has added an assist.

USC's top scorer this season, second-team selection Amy Rodriguez has earned her second career All-Pac-10 honors. She was the 2005 Pac-10 Freshman of the Year, and has improved her game further in her junior season to stand out with seven goals and three assists for the Trojans this year. Rodriguez now ranks No. 8 all-time at USC with 53 career points and is also No. 8 in goals with 20. She is tied for sixth in assists (13) and game-winning goals (7).

In her first year as a full-time starter in goal for USC, sophomore Kristin Olsen has worked her way into Pac-10 Second Team honors. The goalkeeper has been near or at the top of the Pac-10 in shutouts and goals-against average throughout the season. She finished conference action at No. 2 in shutouts with seven and No. 3 in goals-against average (0.64). That mark also ranks the sophomore at 26th in the nation.

On the honorable mention list are two of USC's standout newcomers. As a full-time starting defender, Kasey Johnson has helped USC to secure 10 shutouts and allow only 12 goals, while she has also tallied three assists. Her power and height in the back has also helped feed into USC's offensive attack, which has generated 37 goals entering the postseason. Six of those goals have come from fellow freshman Megan Ohai. Ohai had three goals in USC's first two games. That included two game-winners to hold Ohai as the first Trojan to accomplish such a feat. She has continued to be a force up front for the Women of Troy, as she is second on the team in points with 15 after also notching three assists.

Johnson and Ohai also were placed on the Pac-10 All-Freshman Team, where another deserving Trojan appears. Midifelder Ashli Sandoval also wasted little time making an impact at Troy. She has drilled two goals and has eight assists on the year to rank the freshman No. 2 in the Pac-10 in assists. And with 0.42 assists per game, Sandoval is ranked No. 55 in the nation.

Also released this week were national honors by TopDrawer. Getting national nods on the season were another outstanding Trojan defender, junior Janessa Currier, who has anchored the back line for USC for the past three seasons now. She has earned Top Drawer Soccer Women's College Team of the Season Honorable Mention along with USC's Amy Rodriguez. Kasey Johnson and Megan Ohai were named to TopDrawer's All-Rookie Team for 2007.
