THIS SEASON: A talented backstroker with international experience, 2008 sophomore Dina Hegazy from Egypt begins her first full season with the Trojans after beginning school in the spring of 2007. She will work towards becoming a key point scorer at the Pac-10 and perhaps NCAA level.
2007: Hegazy was 13th in the 200y back (2:00.32), 19th in the 100y back (56.13) and 39th in the 500y free (5:02.94) as a freshman at the 2007 Pac-10 Championships. Both of the aforementioned backstroke times were personal bests. She began competing for USC in January of 2007 as a spring semester enrollee and quickly earned a role as a dual-meet contributor.
HIGH SCHOOL: Hegazy graduated from American City College High in Cairo. She also attended Sunny Hills High in Rolling Hills for one year.
EGYPT: A national and Arab record holder in the 50m, 100m and 200m back, Hegazy joined the Egyptian National swimming team in 2002 and has competed internationally for Egypt since 2003 ... Most recently, she raced for Egypt at the African Swimming Championships in September of 2006, winning silver medals in the 50m and 100m back and bronze medals in the 200m back and 400y medley relay ... At the 2005 Mediterranean Games, she was ninth in the 100m back and 10th in the 200m back ... At the 2004 Arab Olympic Games, she won gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m back and the 400m medley relay ... At the 2003 Junior African Championships, she won gold medals in the 50m and 100m back.
PERSONAL: She was born March 21, 1989 ... She plans to major in fine arts.
