LOS ANGELES - Senior Asia Kaczor (Wroclaw, Poland/College of Southern Idaho) recorded 19 kills in a .425 performance (19-2-40) Friday as the No. 5 USC Trojans swept the Pepperdine Waves, 3-0 (30-22, 30-23, 31-29), in the first round of the 2007 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament at the Galen Center.

With 40 attempts, Kaczor set a USC single-season record and now has 1,281 on the season. She passed her own mark of 1,272, set last season. She now has 553 kills as well, one behind Jennifer Kessy (554 in 1998) for second place on USC's list for most kills in a season. She will need 10 kills tomorrow night to tie her own record of 563 set last season and 11 to set a new record.

USC improved to 26-4 overall while Pepperdine finishes the season at 18-11. The Trojans improved to 5-2 all-time against the Waves in postseason play.

Senior middle blocker Bethany Johansen (San Jose/UC Santa Barbara) tied her season high with 10 kills in a .450 night (10-1-20) while junior outside hitter Jessica Gysin (Los Gatos/St. Francis HS) had 11 kills and hit .429 for the match. USC hit .345 on the evening including a .419 clip in game two.

Sophomore setter Taylor Carico (Manhattan Beach/Mira Costa HS) had 45 assists and eight digs in the sweep. Carico now has 1,268 assists for the season, moving her into fourth place on USC's single-season list. She is 11 assists behind Monika Cavaliere (1,379 in 1994) for third place.

Cassi Chamberlin led the Waves with 15 kills and hit .560 (15-1-25) in the match while Julie Rubenstein had a double-double with 11 kills and 19 digs.

The Trojans held a 10-3 lead in game one and used a 5-0 run in game two to lead the way. Pepperdine battled in game three and held game point at 29-28, but Kaczor tied the game and Carico ripped two straight kills to give USC the win.

USC will face No. 25 Long Beach State in second-round action tomorrow at 7 p.m. after the 49ers defeated UNLV in five games earlier. The match will be broadcast live via video webcast on usctrojans.com.
